Instructions for authors

Czech Journal of Social Sciences, Business and Economics accepts submissions of original papers in English. Papers submitted to the review cannot be under editorial process in another journal. The template for preparing your paper can be downloaded here. 

Each paper has to submitted by email (subject title: CJSSBE Submission) to: editor@cjssbe.cz Submission is completed upon receiving a confirmation email.

The length of the paper should be about 10 single-spaced pages, and not exceed 30 single-spaced pages.

Submit the paper in one text file. Form and content of the text file should be carefully checked to exclude the need for later corrections.

The text file should start with a title page that would include the name(s) of the author(s), a concise and informative title, the affiliation(s) and address(es) of the author(s), e-mail address, telephone and fax numbers of the communicating author.

• The text file should also include abstract (no more than 300 words), three to eight keywords, an appropriate number of JEL Classification codes, and the text itself. The text should be fully anonymised. 

• As much as possible, avoid footnotes as they distract readers from the main text; short footnotes for few bibliographic references should be especially avoided.

• Number only equations that are referenced in the text.

• Write on one line mathematical expressions used within a paragraph.

• Long mathematical proofs should appear in an appendix. The main body of the text should focus on the thrust, structure and economic intuition of the argumentation.

• All tables must be sent separately as MS Excel files. Tables should have a title and a legend explaining any abbreviation used in that table. Footnotes to tables should be indicated by superscript lower-case letters (or asterisks for significance values and other statistical data).

• All figures must be in JPEG format (200 dpi, with sufficiently large Times font); we accept source of the figures only for MS Excel and Matlab graphs. Lowercase letters (a, b etc.) should be used to identify figure parts. Figures made in MS Excel should be sent also as an Excel file.

• Acknowledgements should be as brief as possible. Any grant that requires acknowledgement should be mentioned. The names of funding organizations should be written in full.

•   We accept papers only in MS Word:

  • Type equations in Equation Editor or Math Type clearly with one space before and after mathematical function signs except in subscripts and superscripts. Type the main components, the equal sign, and the fraction bar on the main line of typing.

• Data policy: Authors are expected to provide whatever material is needed to ensure that their results can be replicated. This includes especially datasets (or instructions on how to access third-party datasets, accompanied by a proper description of what was used in the paper), computer programs (sometimes a detailed description of code is sufficient), technical appendices, supplementary tables and proofs, etc. The data should be accompanied by a message ("readme" file) explaining the structure of the data. In particular, it should explain how many observations there are, what each variable is, how the data are organized in the data files, and the sources from which the data were taken.

• In the text as well as in footnotes, references should be cited by author and year (e.g. Schneider et al. (2006) or Persson and Tabellini (2000)). In case the author lists the references in brackets, cite as this (e.g. Schneider et al. 2006, Persson and Tabellini 2000). They should be listed in alphabetical order in the reference list.

• The reference list should only include works that are cited in the text and that have been published or accepted for publication. Personal communications should only be mentioned in the text. A paper published online but not yet in print can be cited using the Digital Object Identifier (DOI). If available, the DOI can also be added at the end of references already published.

  •    Journals: names and initials of all authors; year in parentheses; full title of paper cited; short title of journal; volume number; isme number in parentheses; first and last page numbers; DOI, if applicable. Example:
    Lau, L. (1996), Duality and the structure of utility functions, Journal of Economic Theory, 1(2), pp. 374–396.

  •    Books: names and initials of all authors; year; full title; edition; place of publication; publisher. Example:
    Fudenberg, D. and Tirole, J. (1991), Game Theory. Cambridge, MIT Press.

  •    Chapter in book. Example:
    Obstfeld, M. (1990). Discussion: Confidence Crises and Public Debt Management. In Dornbusch, R. and Draghi, M. (eds.), Public Debt Management: Theory and History. Cambridge, Cambridge University Press, 146–152.

  •    Proofreading: Authors should make their proof corrections on a printout of the pdf file or use the online correction facilities provided with the proof. They should check that the text is complete and that all figures and tables are included. The author is entitled to formal corrections only. Substantial changes in content, e.g. new results, corrected values, title and authorship, are not allowed without the approval of the responsible editor. After online publication, further changes can only be made in the form of an Erratum, which will be hyperlinked to the article.

The Editors reserve the right to return to the authors any manuscript that in their opinion is not suitable for publication in CJSSBE, without expressly stipulating the reasons for doing so. Under no circumstances the identity of the reviewers and referees for individual articles will be disclosed to the authors, or to any other third party.

Article Processing Costs (APC)

The journal does not charge any APC.
